Dear reader,

The Asia Pacific Evening of Culture (APEC) 2018 is finally over, and we all are feeling bittersweet now. We have put in a lot of effort. Everyone was involved and was very responsible. As a result, we were able to organize this fantastic cultural evening. (I am not bragging, it was perfect). Everyone enjoyed it. So, when everything is over, each one of us is having this feeling of emptiness, and I do not know how to explain it in words.

Anyway, let's talk about the fun part. There were some pre-events taking place before the day of APEC. They usually take place during the 10-minute break. Some of them are martial arts tryout sessions(kendo, karate, judo), APEC food tasting and name writing in APEC languages. Many LPC students took part in it.

Saturday was the day of APEC. In the morning, we had rehearsals. After that, we cooked the APEC meals in the canteen the entire afternoon since there will be a special dinner in the evening before the performances. The food making was fun. There was Indonesian Chicken Satay, Korean Kimbap, Thai fried egg, Japanese Udon, Myanmar floating rice balls and many more delicious dishes.

We also decorated the canteen with these fantastic pictures of the APEC members, drawn by Jocelin. Thank you very much!!

At the dinner, the students came with the APEC dress code (either wearing the Asia Pacific traditional clothes, as Crazy Rich Asians or Thai pants). Two students came in Myanmar traditional dress, my friends Chief and Eraj.

Finally, it was the time we have been waiting for - the performance. The storyline of this year's APEC is that a group of representatives from the Asia Pacific region goes on a cruise ship, but a storm caused the shipwreck. So, they ended up on a deserted island and started to miss home. Therefore, each representative tells a story from their home country to pass the time while waiting for the rescue ship.

The performances included Thunderstorm Orchestra, talks about the natural disasters, Life of Pi, Indonesian Angklung instruments, Timor-Leste dance, a fun Thai dance, a Singapore love story, a Taiwan skit, Martial Arts (where our English teacher got thrown by my co-year judo black belt, Isabel), a Japanese New Year dinner, a Myanmar New Year song, a Philippino song, a series of K-pop dances, New Zealand Haka and finally Gangnam style. All the performances were spectacular, and everyone enjoyed the show. The video of the performances will be uploaded soon.

(After the performances)

Congratulations and thank you to everyone for their hard work, and to my super-kind roommate, Timo for recording this unforgettable moment.

Also, thanks to my fantastic friend, Engun, who performed as a tiger in my Life of Pi scene.

So, the busy days are over and I will finally be able to return to my normal life and study for IB again. However, I still need to cope with that feeling of emptiness. Anyway, keep in touch because there is always something happening in LPC.

With warmest regards,

π
